Instructor: Karin Dahl
Date: Sunday, Sept 27 2026
Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm
Location: Makeshift Center at Standard Parts Studio
4425 Linden St, Oakland
Workshop Description: Join us for a day of experimentation with Indigo dye! Blue is the rarest dye color found in nature and the blue color created from indigo plants is both deep and colorfast (meaning it won’t fade or wash out easily). As one of the hardiest natural dyes, it is a great option to use for transforming clothing or textiles that have lost their luster. Need to hide a stubborn stain? Want to update a vintage piece with some crisp geometric patterns? Look no further!
This dreamy blue plant dye has been used for centuries throughout the world, each culture with its own unique take on application and surface design. In this workshop, we’ll review different types of indigo vats with an introduction to making your own vat at home. We’ll experiment with different clamp and tie resists to create patterns on sample fabric, followed by the opportunity for you to over-dye your own clothing or small textile piece.
Cost:
$60 - Standard price
$100 - Pay it forward: help us to continue offering free and donation based events
$200 - Super supporter: help us invest in new and updated equipment so we can expand our offerings
$300 - Make our dreams come true
Materials Fee: $15
