Unlock the creative possibilities of surface design in this hands-on workshop! We’ll explore how to use mordants—essential fixing agents for natural dyes—to create intricate patterns and textures on fabric. Whether you’re a natural dye enthusiast or a complete beginner, this course offers a perfect deep dive into advanced techniques, starting with a comprehensive overview of the dyeing process.
While standard natural dyeing involves soaking fabric in a mordant bath, we’ll take it a step further by using thickened mordant pastes. This technique allows for precise application through painting, stamping, and stenciling. You’ll experiment with various modifiers to build a personal catalog of samples, discovering how to achieve a diverse range of values, hues, and patterns on both plant and animal-based fibers.
