Workshop Description:
This one-day workshop offers a great opportunity to learn the basic elements of a plain weave basket, emphasizing both the structural techniques of weaving a round basket with a square base, as well as integrating design elements and color with naturally dyed rattan reed.
The first portion of the day will be dedicated to acquainting students with the materials and weaving process. After discussing basic weaving terminology, materials, tools and techniques, students will translate this knowledge into physical form, building a base, turning up the walls, integrating patterns, and finishing the top edges with a seagrass whip-stitch for structural integrity and visual interest.
Students will leave with a finished basket suitable for storing linens or other household items of your choosing. This course is designed for beginners and intermediate students alike.
