Workshop Description:
Learn how to extract colorful pigments from a variety of locally grown plants to create inks for use in drawing, painting, and printmaking! Instructor Sarah Moss-Horwitz will introduce participants to the chemical compounds that create pigment in plants as well as provide historical insight into how plants have been cultivated for color in art-making.

After extracting the color, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of modifiers that impact the color creating a wider range of hues. Everyone will leave with sample bottles of their own inks and have plenty of time to create swatches and play with the inks on paper throughout the workshop. Great class for anyone wishing to incorporate botanical inks into their art practice, or who are just curious about the magic of color in plants. No prior skills necessary.
